Barcelona looking to loan 20-year-old winger after Raphinha-Dembele signing
With Barcelona closing in on the double signing of Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele, it could spell trouble for some of the existing players on the roster.

Barça have had a €75 million offer for Raphinha accepted by Leeds United, whereas the Catalans are about to re-sign Dembele on a two-year contract ten days after his previous deal expired and he became a free agent.

While their arrivals would significantly boost the frontline, it could also mean that the game-time of some of the forwards in the squad could take a major hit.

One such player whose situation could be affected by the arrivals of Dembele and Raphinha is youngster Ez Abde. And as reported by Diario AS, the Barcelona management plan to inform the 20-year-old youngster to leave on loan this summer.

Abde has been with the Blaugrana for just a year, after joining from Hercules CF last summer. Brought in to strengthen the Barça Atletic squad, the winger was given a chance at first-team football due to injuries and the young Moroccan made a solid impression.

Abde was poised to earn a promotion to the senior squad this summer, but the impending arrivals of Dembele and Raphinha would mean that the youngster is unlikely to find a place in Xavi’s plans in the first-team roster.

Hence, Abde will now be allowed to leave on loan as the Catalans want to avoid ‘overbooking’ on the right flank.

In his debut season in Catalonia, Abde made 11 senior appearances scoring one goal. He also managed three goals and seven assists from 21 matches for Barcelona Atletic.

A temporary spell away at a club where he can play regularly could be good for the youngster’s development. There have been reports of interest in the youngster from several La Liga clubs and it remains to be seen where he moves this summer.

Thomas Tuchel has broken his silence on Cristiano Ronaldo's Chelsea transfer links.

football.london understand that the Blues have sounded out a move for the striker, with Ronaldo keen to ply his trade in the Champions League this season. According to ESPN, the Portugal international is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea remain hesitant as to whether to escalate their interest, with Tuchel believed to have been granted the final say.

The Portuguese star has not been included in Erik ten Hag's squad which has travelled to Thailand for pre-season, with 'family reasons' cited as the reason for his absence. Ronaldo is yet to have reported back for pre-season training, despite being expected to return last Monday.
Chelsea have travelled to the United States for pre-season. As seen on Twitter, after being greeted by international fans, Tuchel was asked whether the club are going to sign Ronaldo. The German replied by smiling and saying: "I will not tell you."

Tuchel's response leaves a lot open to interpretation, but he hasn't exactly closed the door on a potential transfer for the 37-year-old superstar.

Manchester City On Course to Sanction Gabriel Jesus Sale to Arsenal With Transfer Fee Revealed
A recent report from Brazil has revealed that Manchester City are now 'on course' to accept a €50 million fee in order to offload Gabriel Jesus to fellow Premier League side, Arsenal in the summer of 2022.

As Manchester City confirmed the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday afternoon, it now seems likelier than ever that Gabriel Jesus could be heading to Arsenal or elsewhere in Europe during the coming summer.

Since his move to the Bundesliga in 2020, the Norwegian international has etched his reputation as one of the select few elite strikers in world football - which is certainly bad news for the aforementioned Brazilian, who has recently been flourishing as a number nine for Manchester City.
Add to that the fact that the multi-functional rising Argentine star Julian Alvarez - who profiles similarly to Gabriel Jesus - is set to join Manchester City during the coming pre-season, and it seems like a heavily speculated switch away from the Etihad Stadium may well be the best course of action for the 25-year old.
While several reports have highlighted the fact that a transfer to Arsenal could be on the cards during the coming summer, new details have emerged that point to the fact a move looks closer than ever.
As per a report by Marcelo Hazan and Bruno Andrade of Brazilian outlet UOL, while Manchester City ‘want’ a €60 million transfer fee in order to offload Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal, negotiations are ‘on course’ to sanction his sale for a €50 million fee.
Further details suggest that from a financial perspective, the deal is similar to Erling Haaland’s transfer to Manchester City. However, the former Palmeiras man has been ‘planning’ his departure long before the Dortmund goalscorer was confirmed to be headed to the Etihad Stadium.
It has been claimed that Gabriel Jesus holds the belief that the Gunners could provide him with a significant boost of opportunities to play as a striker - which gives him the golden opportunity to impress Brazil coach Tite and hopefully confirm his place on the flight to the Qatar World Cup in November this year.

Additionally, it is stated that Mikel Arteta’s experience of working closely with the versatile forward during his time as assistant coach at Manchester City also benefits Arsenal in potentially striking a deal.

From a Manchester City perspective, it looks likely that they are satisfied with profiting from Gabriel Jesus’ departure, considering his current contract is set to expire as soon as the summer of 2023.

News: Ashoka launches Everyone A ChangemakerMovement, Ashoka Young Changemakers (AYC) Program in Nigeria to inspire changemaking

Ashoka launches Everyone A ChangemakerMovement, Ashoka Young Changemakers (AYC) Program in Nigeria to inspire changemaking

Published

on May 12, 2022

With a population of over 200 million people, 62 percent of whom are under the age of 21, Nigeria remains an important power on the African continent in inspiring the next generation of leaders and changemakers, who will in turn contribute to Africa’s development and create a better world for all.

Changemaking is the new education. It is the most essential skill for thriving in the world today. Education is no longer just about what students read in textbooks and get taught in school. It is also about the messages and impressions that children and young people are exposed to everyday on various platforms.

Lagos, Nigeria, May 11, 2022 — Ashoka, a global organization that supports the world’s leading social entrepreneurs, has officially launched the Everyone A Changemaker(EACH) Movement in Nigeria. The EACH movement will be implemented in six Metro areas in Nigeria, including Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Yola. A Changemaker City or Metro Area is a connected ecosystem of influential institutions, leaders, and actors in a region, who are collaborating and co-creating innovative strategies that foster and support the next generation of changemakers in their communities.

Ashoka has also started the selection panel for Ashoka Young Changemakers (AYC) in Nigeria. The AYC program is a carefully selected network of young people under the age of 21 who demonstrate inspirational leadership in their communities by creating innovative solutions, are leading a team to implement their changemaking ideas and are ready to take on the role as youth influencers, peer allies and co-leaders of the Everyone a Changemaker movement. The AYC program provides an enabling ecosystem for young changemakers to thrive by connecting them to changemaking tools, opportunities, and supportive networks.

As the selection panel for the program begins, Ashoka has convened various stakeholders including Ashoka Fellows, Next Gen Leaders, media, government institutions, teachers and teachersunions, parents, and parent networks, changemaker companies and influencers critical in establishing and building a strong ecosystem for partnerships and opportunities for collaboration for the young changemakers.

In recent times, there has been a rapid growth of innovative, citizens-led solutions in Nigeria aimed at addressing the country’s social problems. A recent report by the British Council revealed that there could be more than 443,000 citizen led solutions in Nigeria. The report further reveals that 72 percent of the surveyed entrepreneurs set up their ventures since 2014 while 43 percent put them up in 2018.

While this is commendable, the report highlights that more than three-quarters of these citizen led solutions fall under the age of 45 years in a country where the median age is just 18 years. The report indicated that this is driven by a lack of awareness by the relevant stakeholders on the impact that social entrepreneurship driven by young people can have on the country’s economic growth agenda.

The launch of the Ashoka Young Changemakers program comes at a critical time as we continue to witness the tremendous growth and impact occasioned by upcoming social entrepreneurs here in Nigeria. At Ashoka, we recognize the imperious need to inspire change and activate the Everyone a Changemakermindset among young people who make up the greatest percentage of this country’s population. One of the ways we achieve this is by reimagining the growing up years of children and young people and factors that influence them and can inspire a shift in mindsets, change in attitudes, and empower young people to be the drivers of change in their communities, said Josephine Nzerem, Regional Director, Ashoka Africa.

To achieve a greater impact and shift everyone in our society into the new reality, every stakeholder needs to have a better understanding of the role they can play to help young people step out boldly and implement their changemaking ideas. It is a call for co-leadership, collaboration and coordinated efforts on the part of government, citizens, social entrepreneurs, the private sector, funders, partners, and investors.

Changemakers are in the business of disrupting systems and creating better ones no matter the challenges they encounter. In a country where the median age is under 21 years, Nigeria proves to be the hub for nurturing the culture of changemaking across the African continent. We are determined to connect the young entrepreneurs we have identified to resources, materials, tools, opportunities, and partnerships that will help them scale their ideas for social change and empowerment for a better Nigeria, said Angelou Ezeilo, Empathy Leader, Ashoka Africa Children &Empathy.

It is exciting to be a part of a movement that recognizes this new reality of changemaking in order to thrive and be successful in this rapidly changing world. If every child grows up with this gift of changemaking, the inequalities witnessed today shall be a thing of the past. Changemaking must become the new norm so that old systems become self-correcting as they will be managed by empathetic people who care for the good of all, she added.

In the weeks leading up to the launch, Ashoka also held engaging interactive Media Dialogues on the Role of the Media as Champions and Co-leaders of the EACH Movementto sensitize the media on its role in informing, educating and inspiring the changemaking mindset shift of the over 200 million Nigerians, 1.3 billion Africans and 7.9 billion people globally.

With the theme: Everyone A Changemaker, the week-long series of events will witness the commitment of the Lagos State government on the Everyone a Changemakerframework as well as highlight and showcase the power of changemakers who have led change from an early age and the impact their work has had in their communities and ultimately match them to strategic partners, Next Gen Leaders, Ashoka Fellows, and other cross-cutting connections for spreading the EACH movement.

Beyond Lagos and the six Metro areas where the EACH movement will be implemented, Ashoka and the EACH co-leaders will launch the movement in other countries in Africa like Kenya, South Africa, and Senegal.

About Ashoka

Ashoka is the largest global network of social entrepreneurs with system-changing solutions working across countries and sectors. Ashoka started in 1981 based on the simple insight: There is nothing more powerful than a new idea in the hands of an entrepreneur. Today it has a global network of over 3,500 Ashoka Fellows in 85 countries – including over 500 Fellows and young leaders in 23 countries in Africa – and actively engages with partners to collectively advance its goal of a society where Everyone is a changemaker. Sports News: AFCON 2021: Dominant Eagles Outclass Sudan, Advance Into Round Of 16

AFCON 2021: Dominant Eagles Outclass Sudan, Advance Into Round Of 16

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have booked their place in the Round of 16 of the 2021 AFCON after a dominant showing and 3-1 win against Sudan in Garoua on Saturday, Completesports reports.

Goals from Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and Moses Simon put the Eagles in a comfortable lead.

However Sudan got a goal in the second half from the penalty spot.

It is the Super Eagles’ first win against Sudan at AFCON since a 1-0 victory at the 1976 edition in Ethiopia.

Chukwueze broke the deadlock on three minutes when he slotted the ball past the Sudanese keeper off a threaded pass from Moses Simon inside the box.

The Sudanese had a chance on goal in the 10th minute through Gumaa Abas Omer which failed to trouble Maduka Okoye.

In the 13th minute Okoye was called to action following a long range shot from Mohamed Al Rashed which he dived to save.

Taiwo Awoniyi almost doubled the Eagles’ lead on 25 minutes after he was played through by Kelechi Iheanacho, but his shot was blocked for a corner.

On 36 minutes the Eagles had a couple of chances as William Troost-Ekong saw his goal bound shot from Simon’s setpiece saved by the keeper before Awoniyi saw his effort come off the post.

Within five minutes the Eagles had another big chance but Aribo hit his effort off target after a good cutback from Awoniyi.

Awoniyi made it 2-0 on 45 minutes off a lucky goal as a Troost-Ekong’s header from Iheanacho’s set piece, came off a Sudanese player which veered off the Union Berlin striker’s head with the Keeper failing to keep it out.

Before the start of the second half the Eagles made their first change with Chukwueze going off for Alex Iwobi.

And just one minute into the second half, Simon added the third goal as he controlled the ball on the air before slotting under the Sudanese keeper.

In the 52nd minute, Awoniyi had a big chance to get his second goal following a poor clearance from a Sudanese defender but his goal bound strike was blocked for a corner.

Sudan almost profited from a mistake from Okoye on 59 minutes after he came out to claim a cross and dropped the ball before gathering the loose ball to avoid any danger.

On 65 minutes the Eagles made a double change with Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Nwakali replacing Iheanacho and Aribo respectively.

A minute later, Zaidu Sanusi made an important block as he headed into corner a goal bound shot.

With 20 minutes left Sudan pulled a goal back from the penalty spot through Walieldin Kedr after Ola Aina fouled a Sudanese player inside the box, as VAR check confirmed.

With 15 minutes left, Awoniyi was close to extending the Eagles’ lead after he was played through by Iwobi but hit his shot off target.

Sudan went close on 81 minutes following a dangerous low crow from the right which Maduka palmed away.

With less than 10 minutes left Umar Sadiq was introduced for Awoniyi.

In the 90th minute Sadiq had his first chance on goal, but his lame effort went way off target.

The Eagles now join Cameroon and Morocco in the knockout stage of the tournament.

Nigeria will now take on Guinea-Bissau in their final Group D match on Wednesday, January 19.

Arresting De General, a waste of taxpayers’ money, says comedian Basketmouth

Sunday Joshua, aka De General

Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha, professionally known as Basketmouth, has stated that the arrest of a skit maker, De General, was a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Born Sunday Joshua, the skit maker was earlier arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency who stormed his house in the early hours of Wednesday.

In an official statement by the agency, the skit maker admitted ownership of tramadol and cannabis drug exhibits found in his home.

Reacting to the arrest, Basketmouth took to his Instagram story to state that De General’s arrest was a waste of taxpayers’ money.

In a video he shared, the comedian made reference to the mugshot which the skit maker took at the NDLEA custody.

Nigeria Will Collapse If You Hand Over To Northerner – Father Mbaka Warns Buhari

Speaking during a sermon at the adoration ground in Enugu State, the popular Catholic priest warned Buhari against planning to hand over power to the north.

The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has warned the Muhammadu Buhari-led government that Nigeria may cease to exist if the north retains power in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Speaking during a sermon at the adoration ground in Enugu State, the popular Catholic priest warned Buhari against planning to hand over power to the north.

Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka

According to Mbaka, the Northerners should forget about leadership in the coming political era, saying there may be a disaster if the north tries to impose the next President on Nigerians.

He said, “The issue of after Buhari, the North should lead again, President Buhari should better plan well and hand over to the South, but if the north wants to take over, this country will collapse.

“There may be no Nigeria again if the President, because of whatever, tries to hand over power back to the north. After Buhari, the Northerners should forget about leadership in this coming political era.

“If they try to make a northerner next President, disaster will happen, going forward will be impossible, going back will be a dream. Anyhow they want to do the political maneuvering, they should make sure that justice prevails.

“The spirit of the Lord has asked me to say this because they have what it takes to plant a northerner. Buhari should remember that Nigerians trusted him when he came in and he should remember that one day, he is leaving that place'.

Is Mr. President Not Aware That Nigerians Are Dying From His Misrule?: Ortom Tackles Buhari Again

Is Mr. President Not Aware That Nigerians Are Dying From His Misrule?: Ortom Tackles Buhari Again

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has accused the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari of inflicting untold hardship on Nigerians.

Ortom in a statement on Thursday through his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur claimed Nigerians have suffered hunger and misery since the advent of the Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in 2015.

He added that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is prepared to save Nigerians from the woes of the APC administration in 2023 urging the people to vote for the Umbrella party.

“Nigerians have absorbed enough hunger and misery in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) misrule. Or is it possible that Mr. President is not aware that Nigerians are dying from his misrule?”

“The PDP is ready to rescue Nigeria from the insecurity and economic horror placed on Nigerians by the APC”, he said, adding that “the party is better prepared with laudable programmes on the welfare of Nigerians and to rebuild the nation from the APC tale of woes,” Ortom declared.

In the same statement, the Benue State Governor also called on President Buhari to declare the Miyetti Allah group as a terrorist organization.

He said both the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) and the Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM) have caused chaos in Benue and many other parts of the country.

Ortom added that as a way to curb their excesses, the anti-open grazing law has been activated in Benue State and will remain in force as part of measures to resolve the farmers/herdsmen clashes in the state.

“Though the federal government’s measures on bandits now seems strong, the security challenges will only be adequately addressed if similar hard position is taken on Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, MACBAN, and the Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM) who have vowed and continued to cause mayhem in Benue State and other parts of the country because of the anti-grazing laws,” the statement submitted.

“For us in Benue State, the law has come to stay. It is irrevocable. In fact, we have maintained our position that Benue State has no grazing routes, reserves, or areas so whatever.

“It was enacted in good faith for peace and order in the state. It was done among other things to end the incessant farmers/herdsmen clashes in the state.”

News:Igbokwe blames Igbo for trusting political minions

Igbokwe blames Igbo for trusting political minions

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Drainage and Water Resources, Joe Igbokwe, has said the Southeast region may continue to find it difficult, if not impossible, to produce Nigeria’s president, as long as they persist in making the terrible mistake of surrendering their political fate to minions and hirelings.

Igboķwe lamented that this is what many stakeholders from the region have failed to realise 50 years after the Civil War.

In his book entitled: ‘Igbos 50 Years After Biafra’, Igbokwe said 50 years after the civil war, the Igbos have been so demolished politically that they are stranded on the lonely stretch of wolf-crying and generous appeal to self-pity.

While equating the present situation of Ndigbo in the political atmosphere of the country to that of an orphan, Igbokwe, the longest serving spokesman for Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), said, “It was tragic. Today, Igbos are political orphans that are hugely resented by every other ethnic group. This is what we brought to ourselves when we leased our political space to cheap men of straw that traded with it and ended up making us a confused and battered people.”

Manchester City’s improved defensive record means they are better prepared for the fine margins of the Champions League later stages this season, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan said on Tuesday.

City is aiming to reach the semi-finals for the first time in five years under Pep Guardiola when they take a 2-1 lead to Gundogan’s old club Borussia Dortmund for the second leg of their quarter-final tie on Wednesday.

Marco Reus’s away goal for the Germans in Manchester last week was the first goal City had conceded in more than 800 minutes in the Champions League since their opening group game in October.

Defensive mistakes have been a consistent feature of City’s exits in Europe’s premier club competition under Guardiola.

They were knocked out on away goals by Monaco in 2017 after a thrilling tie ended 6-6, lost 5-1 over two legs to Liverpool in 2018 and again missed out on away goals against Tottenham in 2019 after a 4-4 draw on aggregate.

Last season it was Lyon, who shocked Guardiola’s men in a one-off tie, winning 3-1 in Lisbon.

“For me it is very important (to take the next step in Europe). I have expectations to myself, I have expectations to my teammates, to my team,” said Gundogan in a pre-match press conference.

“I know we have great players and a great team and should have been to the semis earlier. We were lacking something. We made little mistakes which led to goals.

“When you concede this amount of goals in the leg at home, it is not easy.

“I feel like we are much more stable at the moment. We are defending well.”

However, Guardiola believes scoring in Dortmund will be the key to reaching the last four given the threat the German giants pose going forward, led by Norway attacker Erling Haaland.

“We have to control emotions, but sometimes you need emotions to win these games. We go there to win. Each player will need to be a leader on the pitch,” said Guardiola.

“We start 2-1. In the last 26, 27 games they have scored, so we have to score goals and to do that we have to play our game and be effective up front.”

In their love and desire to see their club clinch success, they've reacted sarcastically to a picture of their head Coach, Frank Lampard as he was seen with his Players on the training Ground, about to take a shot. They feel their Boss is still agile and powerful enough to play for them on Sunday against Liverpool.

Some pleaded that, he should play with his boys on Sunday so that they will be able to win Liverpool easily and flawlessly.

Though they have new players in the Club, they still feel uncertified and want to see their coach take some drill, put on his '8' shirt and fire shots at Liverpool Goal Post on Sunday.
